University of Toronto Work-Study Program
Due to the popularity of the Program, there is a limit on the number of Work-Study jobs that can be funded. You need to be hired and submit your Hiring Form to your employer as soon as possible in May to ensure that your position will be funded.
The Work-Study Program provides opportunities for part-time employment for eligible Canadian students. In addition to financial income, the majority of Work-Study jobs offer practical experience related to students' field of study or work duties which may allow students to explore future academic programs or career areas.
Basic Eligibility Criteria
You must:
- have applied and qualified for OSAP assistance; OR have qualified for student financial aid from a province / territory other than Ontario (confirmation required); OR are receiving Band funding from the Aboriginal Student Support Program (confirmation required); AND
- register in at least 60%* of a full course load for the entire summer study period from May to August (*40% for students who have documented permanent disabilities.)
Students registered in Toronto School of Theology programs are NOT eligible to participate in this program.
Program Information
- Hiring Deadline: May 31, 2012
- The Work-Study Program will run from May 14, 2012 to July 31, 2012
- One job per student is allowed
Pay Rate and Maximum Hours
- Work-Study employees are paid monthly
- Pay Rate: $10.25 per hour plus 4% vacation pay
- Weekly maximum: 12 hours in any given week
- Maximum Hours: 90 (for the summer)
- Hours must be worked within the program start and end dates. For budgetary reasons, no extension is possible.
Procedures for Applying
Beginning May 14, 2012, after ensuring that you meet the basic eligibility criteria, you can:- Review the job listings at http://www.careers.utoronto.ca
- Find a suitable job position and apply for the job as instructed on the listing
- Please note ONE job per student is allowed.
- After being hired, complete Student's Information, Employment Information and Declaration of Eligibility Sections of the Work-Study Hiring Form.
- Give the Hiring Form to the employer for completion of the Hiring Section
- Confirmation of participation will be sent to your ROSI mailing address.
- Pick up your Payroll Package from your employer after your receive the confirmation and begin working.
Payroll Information
- Set up your payroll information at the Payroll Office at the department where you have been hired within 30 days (as of the hiring date).
- Federal and Provincial Personal Tax Credits Return forms and Payroll Bank Authorization Form must be completed and submitted to the payroll/business officer.
- You are paid monthly (Monthly Timesheet) unless you already have a union position with the University (Bi-weekly Timesheet).
- Observe the Payroll schedule to ensure you are paid each month and within the program period.
- Final payroll deadline is Friday July 13, 2012.
